Geometry Classroom Expectations
ExpectationsMaterials
You are expected to bring a pen/pencil, paper, textbook and calculator to class everyday. This is part of your participation grade. If you do not come prepared it is very hard to participate. We also use protractors, compasses and rulers in this class. I have classroom sets of each of these so you do not need to bring them with you to class. However, you should have one of each at home to use with your homework. Calculator You need at least a scientific calculator for this class. Graphing calculators are recommended and you will need one next year, but for now you can get by with a scientific calculator. You cannot use a phone or other device as a calculator. We recommend the TI-30XIIS scientific calculator, but any scientific calculator will do. We recommend the TI-84 calculator for a graphing calculator. Classroom Rules I expect that you treat everyone and everything with respect, that you are patient and polite and that you come prepared and on time to class. Tardy Policy You need to be in the classroom when the bell rings. If you come to class late, without a pass, you will be marked tardy. I do follow the school-wide tardy policy. Phone Policy Electronic devices should not be taken out or used in the classroom unless specified by the teacher. I follow the school-wide phone policy. Absences If you are absent, you are responsible for making up the work that you missed. Assignments that were assigned before you were absent are due upon return. You are allowed two days for every day you were absent to make up assignments that were assigned when you were absent. These assignments will be given full credit. Turn these assignments in to the missing work basket in my room. You must write the word "absent" at the top of your paper. Getting Help If you need help, just ask. I can work with you before or after school. Because of meetings, I do need to know in advance if you are going to be staying after school. |
Earning your GradeGrading Policy
Your grade is based on 3 weighted categories. Assessments are worth 70% of your grade, assignments are worth 20% of your grade and participation in class is worth 10% of your grade. The school-wide grading scale is used. The grading scale can be found on the syllabus. Accelerated Math Students Students should maintain an 83% in the class to continue to be in accelerated math. Assessments The assessment category includes quizzes, tests and projects. Retakes Students are allowed to retake tests if they score lower than 70%, do remedial work as assigned by the teacher and have no missing work. The highest score that will be entered for a retake is 70%. Students must retake the test before the next test or quiz. Assignments The assignment category includes in-class work and homework. Assignments are graded based on the completion of the assignment and will only be accepted if work or an explanation is given to support each answer. In algebra 8, we focus on producing quality and accurate work. Participation The participation category is based on your in-class participation each day. This does not mean that you need to raise your hand and speak everyday. Participation refers to you being actively involved in all parts of the daily lesson including being prepared for class, writing down the daily learning objective, taking notes, completing practice problems and using work time. Late Assignments If your work is not done on time it is considered late and automatically worth half credit. This can can change your grade dramatically if you make it a regular habit. Make a point to get your assignments done on time. |
